Shantytown is the West Coast’s most visited man-made tourism attraction. Visitor numbers began to decline and a major redevelopment was planned. Gurden Consulting acted as Project Manager for the redevelopment working in conjunction with the Board, staff and a range of specialists to create some new engaging attractions. New attractions include a state of the art hologram theatre, enhanced gold experience, remodelled tearooms, new steam experience with interactive foundry, preserved historic locos and upgraded railway station. The project also included fundraising for many components of the attractions.
