Shantytown Archive Facility Feasibility Study
Shantytown has the need for an archive facility to enable the safe storage of various historical items and records. This project involved exploring archive facilities in other regions, identifying the storage needs of other entities on the West Coast, considering Shantytown’s needs and drawing this information together into a feasibility study to guide Shantytown’s planning.
To assist with this project, and specifically the area of facility concept design planning, Gurden Consulting Ltd engaged Ashley Francis. Ashley has undertaken a number of projects for Archives New Zealand which has involved the construction of facilities to store archived material. These projects have include the new archive facility in Auckland, redevelopment of areas of the Archive New Zealand facilities in Wellington and the Feasibility Study for the construction of a new archive for Archives New Zealand in Christchurch.
As a significant need was discovered planning continues to take the project forward.
